Leaning on My Faith During Difficult Seasons

Life has a way of bringing seasons that test our patience, our strength, and our hope. I’ve walked through struggles that left me feeling overwhelmed and uncertain. Yet in the middle of the storms, I’ve had to remind myself of one unshakable truth: God is in control.

Remembering Who Holds My Life

When everything around me felt shaky, I turned to the words of Jesus:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28.

It’s in those moments of weariness that I realized I didn’t need to carry the weight of my circumstances alone. God was inviting me to bring Him my burdens. I remember a time when work pressures and personal challenges piled on. It felt like I was drowning in responsibilities. But then, remembering this verse brought me incredible comfort. It was a reminder that I could surrender that burden and lean into His presence.

Laying My Struggles at His Feet

I often try to fix everything myself—planning, worrying, and striving. But Scripture reminds us:

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:7.

To “cast” means to throw it off, to release it fully. When I laid my struggles down in prayer, I found peace that I could never have found by holding onto them. During a particularly stressful season, instead of waking up filled with dread, I started my mornings by praying and telling God all my worries. I visualized throwing my burdens at His feet.

This simple act transformed my perspective. I began to notice that as I surrendered my anxiety, I felt lighter and more hopeful. My daily routine changed—what was once filled with stress became an opportunity for connection and trust.

Trusting His Plans

One of the hardest lessons in difficult seasons is trusting when you can’t see the outcome. God spoke to my heart through this promise:

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11.

Even when my path looked unclear, I trusted that He was weaving something good through it. My journey often felt like being in a fog; I could see just a few steps ahead but not the destination. However, knowing that God had a plan gave me the strength to keep moving forward.

Reflecting on my life, I realize that some of the best moments came after periods of uncertainty. I learned to view difficult seasons as an opportunity for growth, knowing that God was intentionally preparing me for something better.

Finding Strength in His Presence

There were days I didn’t feel strong enough to keep going. But I remembered:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9.

It wasn’t about my strength. It was about leaning into His. On tough days, I was reminded that it’s okay to not have it all together. Some days, simply being present was enough.

Embracing the idea that I didn’t need to be strong all the time led me to rely on His grace. I began to pray for strength not only for my circumstances but also for patience and understanding. I soon discovered what felt like limitations were actually invitations to experience His strength.

Embracing the Journey

When life gets heavy, I’ve learned to pause and say, “Lord, this is too much for me, but not for You.” In surrendering my struggles, I’ve discovered the peace, hope, and strength that only He can give.

Every season, good or bad, carries lessons that can shape our character. It's important to embrace the journey. Engaging in community through church or support groups helped to reinforce these truths. Hearing testimonies of others who also leaned on faith during tough seasons provided encouragement and perspective.

As I reflected on my journey, the one phrase that echoed with significance remained: "God is still on the throne." No matter what season you’re walking through today, remember: He is sovereign over every challenge we face.

What specific steps can we take as we lean into our faith?

  1. Daily Prayer: Set aside time each day to talk to God about your struggles and seek His guidance.

  2. Scripture Reading: Spend time in the Bible each day. Pick verses that resonate with you and memorize them for encouragement.

  3. Community Connection: Join a support group or talk to a trusted friend who shares your faith. Sharing your journey is crucial.

  4. Journaling: Document your prayers, struggles, and the ways you see God moving in your life. Reflecting on past entries can provide perspective during tough times.

In wrapping up, remember that difficult seasons will come and go, but trusting in God's unfailing love and sovereignty can transform our approach to life's challenges. Leaning on my faith has been the anchor that holds me steady in the storm.
